Exploring how art schools and communities can shift away from mainstream norms, embrace tension, and rethink higher arts education. It takes place in Zwolle, NL, from 18 – 21 November 2026 Hosted by ArtEZ University of the Arts.

Common Stage: Collective Improvisational Performances with a Diverse Community

Breakout Session 3: Thursday, 19 November (17:30 - 18:30) Susi Rosenfeld, Bart Bleijerveld & Susan Bink, ArtEZ University of the Arts, NL

Through a shared rhythmic embodiment, this interactive impro-performance explores the living practice of decentring authorship and dominant artistic norms. The session encourages participants to experience the shared space through movement, sound, presence, or observation, each at their own pace, bringing their personal, cultural, daily, and seasonal rhythms into it. This embodied practice is followed by a collective informal dialogue around leadership and followership, role-switching, power, care, and inclusive artistic processes. Through both the performance and dialogue, participants are invited to explore how space is held, how safety and risk coexist, how marginal voices reshape the whole, and how artistic quality emerges from collective presence.
